I loved this! MM is one of my favorite characters, and I hope to see more of this pairing.

not bad I really like the Madame Hooch idea. It's a little short though and I don't feel that there's really an end to the story

This is absolutely WONDERFUL! So few slash fics actually focus on the problems that being homosexual creates for people - notably that we live in such a heterosexually oriented culture, Minerva's friends just assumed she was straight without bothering to ask. They then talk about homosexuals in a somewhat derogatory way, not even stopping to think about the feelings of those that might overhear them. It's a terrible thing which happens all too often in today's society. Although I'm not homosexual myself, I have a number of close friends who are, and it can be heartbreaking to hear about some of their experiences. I started writing slash myself just to bring some of these issues to light, and I congratualate you on doing the same. Just a note though - Madam Hooch's first name is actually Rolanda. Of course, there's nothing that says she can't have a sister or cousin. But if you're aiming for the Madam Hooch from the books, you might want to change her first name. =) I read some of your other reviews, with people asking for a follow-up, and while I can see this working well as a prologue, I also wanted to let you know that it works perfectly on its own, and there are advantages to keeping it this way as well. When I first posted my Millicent Bulstrode fic (which is remarkably similar to this) on another site, alot of people did want a sequel, but I didn't write one because I felt that it would detract from the "moral of the story" so to speak - that having to pretend to be straight when you're not is an awful, awful thing. So I guess it really depends on whether you want to make a strong statement about how unwittingly cruel girls can be, or to speculate on a lovely romance between these two women. It would definitely be interesting to see how Minerva's friends reacted to the news - or would she even tell them? Good luck with whatever you decide to do - it's a wonderful fic. =)

Author's Response: I'm so glad this ficlet rang true for you; I'm not 100% straight, myself, but not really so's you'd notice, and it's never become an issue for me the way it has for so many of my friends. But I'm a sucker for a good 'forbidden romance', and I found myself very intrigued by the idea behind this story -- Minerva's so bookish and reserved that she hasn't really even though about romance yet. When she finally notices someone, she doesn't even immediately understand what's happening. Once she does -- well, you'll find out if I write a followup. Which is seeming more likely after your thoughtful review, which has gotten me thinking about it again.

As for Hooch's name -- when I wrote this, she was still listed in the IMDB as 'Xiomara Hooch', so it was less certain that Rolanda was really the correct name. I liked Xiomara better, but now that I've doublechecked and the IMDB has dropped 'Xiomara' as her name, I'm thinking I might just go back and change it in the story. Anyone who's reading this may feel free to email me on the subject. (Or on any subject, really.)

Thanks again for such a thoughtful review. It's nice to know that the atmosphere I was going for came across -- there really isn't anything better for a writer to hear, is there?

Really liked this! Any chance of a follow-up? Pretty please!

Author's Response: Yay! I'm so glad people are enjoying this. Yes, it is possible I'll write a followup, but don't hold your breath -- I'm already juggling two very hot bunnies (one H/D and one D/Hr), and I've never learned how to juggle three of anything...

Yey! I love any femme-fic with Hooch! I was thinking about pairing her with minerva myself but decided on a oc instead. However, I do think she is slightly older as in one of the books (somewhere) it says about her first broom being a really old one, or some old memory or something (i think it was in one of the comic relief books maybe) Great work though!

Author's Response: Thanks! I suspect that in reality Minerva is a little older -- in fact, looking at the story now, I wonder why I didn't just swap their years. I have a vague memory that I had some good reason for writing it the way I did, but it was a couple of years ago now and I have no clue what it might have been.

I love it! I see potential for a follow-up... *Hint hint*.

Author's Response: Glad you like it! It's theoretically possible that I might write a followup...
